WHY I CHOOSE TO SUPPORT AUSTRALIAN MARINE CONSERVATION SOCIETY
Like many Australians I have a deep personal connection to the ocean. I’m lucky enough to live, work and play close enough to the sea to enjoy it everyday. From my studio I can hear the sound of the waves and the influence of the ocean ripples into every piece I create.
As I strive to highlight the amazing diversity and incredible beauty of our oceans I also aim to make choices which protect them. I choose to donate 5% of all sales to Australian Marine Conservation Society, Australia’s only charity dedicated to solely protecting our oceans and marine wildlife. Here are some of the reasons why:
1. Fighting for our reefs
AMCS is fighting to stop coal mining in Australia, a major contributor to global warming which results in the devastating bleaching of coral
2. Sustainable seafoods campaign
AMCS strives to raise awareness of sustainable fishing practices that ensure an abundance of fish for the future.
3. Marine Sanctuaries
AMCS is working to protect and create marine sanctuaries which provide protection for marine wildlife and habitats.
4. Ban on single use plastics
AMCS is fighting to introduce a nationwide ban on single use plastics, 8 million tones of which end up in our ocean every year.
5. Protecting Whales
AMCS is drawing attention to commercial whaling, as well as working to create global sanctuaries, giving whales shelter from international shipping.
